Job Description
THIS JOB IS SUPPORTED BY THE FUTURE JOBS FUND AND THE FOLLOWING ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA WILL APPLY; APPLICANTS MUST BE BETWEEN 18 & 24 AND HAVE BEEN IN RECEIPT OF JOB SEEKERS ALLOWANCE FOR AT LEAST 26 WEEKS. THIS IS A 6 MONTH PAID EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The main roles and responsibilities of the post include:
• Assistance in the provision of ICT support to students and staff within University departments.
• Maintain PCs and printers, troubleshoot and fix hardware/software computer faults and train to deal with installations (hardware, software and networking).
• Help to demonstrate computer and audio visual equipment to staff and students.
• Help to maintain PCs in student computing areas to ensure that all computers are in good working order.
• Train to provide technical support to members of the department including setting up computer systems, networking and other technical requirements.
• Maintain databases with serial numbers from all monitors, PCs, keyboards, mice and printers.
• Test all stored hardware devices to check they are in good working order.
Trainees are expected to plan their work in the following areas
• Receive work in person and/or via e-mail and react accordingly.
• Carry out some reactive IT related work, such as dealing with printer jams. These receive priority over more long term jobs.
• Attend training course where appropriate.
• Learn to prioritise; take into consideration staff/student requirements, the priority of tasks, time required to do the job and the availability of parts.
